Food and drink are allowed in the Main Library, however they are restricted from some areas of the Main library such as:
- near computers
- by photocopiers or printers, microfilm reader/ printers etc.
- in particular departments
Branch libraries and Hardin Library may establish food and drink policies appropriate to their facilities, resources and clientele. Please check for local policies.
It is the individual’s responsibility to throw away wrappers, containers, and other trash in the appropriate trash receptacles. Report major spills to library staff immediately, so we can arrange for the appropriate clean-up.
The University Libraries wants to maintain an environment that is appropriate for the protection of library materials and conducive to study. Food and beverages attract rodents, cockroaches, silverfish and other unwanted pests that damage library materials. By complying with the policies, users and staff will help maintain a clean work environment, pest-free buildings, and aid in the preservation of our collections for future generations, while enjoying some food and drink in many areas of the libraries.
Complaints will be handled by library staff in accordance with the Disruptive Behavior clause of the Conduct in the University of Iowa Libraries Basic Policy Governing Public Use.
