Biographical Note

Velma Ford Morrison was born in Madrid, Iowa on April 30, 1909. She attended Drake University in Des Moines and worked as an elementary school teacher from 1928 to 1933. In 1930 she married Hugh Pritchard Morrison; they have five children.

A children's fiction and non-fiction author, Morrison has also been president and manager of the Morrison Book Company since 1953. This company specializes in publishing books for children.

Scope and Contents

The papers of Velma Ford Morrison consist of 1.5 feet of manuscripts, dating from 1953 -- 1982 and 1 foot of artwork. Together with correspondence, there are drafts, galleys, page proofs, and reviews for many of her books. Also, included are her original illustrations for such books as Herbie, My Book, and Twinkle Little Star.
